Today, the funeral of Celeste Fortunato, an environmental activist from Taranto and a mother, was held. She died yesterday, succumbing to leukemia. These were her last words written for us and read at the end of the mass.
According to the accusation, the defendants would have allowed "the dispersion of dust and harmful substances originating from the processing," "omitting the adoption of preventive measures against work accidents and occupational diseases"
"We have received clear evidence from the Local Health Authority regarding the risk to the population," declares the mayor of Taranto, "and an additional report from the Regional Environmental Protection Agency (ARPA) has allowed us to correlate the peaks recorded with the steel mill's activity."
Celeste is engaged in defending the rights of her city, Taranto. Even after discovering that she is suffering from a serious form of leukemia, she continues to fight and writes this book, a testimony of love for life and for the future of her territory.

Ten million tons of CO2 each year, Ilva is the number one producer of CO2 in Italy

On ‘Wind-days’ the local population is advised to minimise exposure to pollution
The residents of Taranto have been struggling with air pollution long before the Covid-19 pandemic. They are now caught in the crossfire of two public health emergencies that require local authorities to take action and demand the shutting down of the polluting premises.

Letter to the Prime Minister, Prof. Giuseppe Conte
If we calculate the atmospheric pollution caused not just by the steelworks alone, but also by the thermoelectric plants that were built to provide it with its power needs and burn its waste gas we arrive at the conclusion that Ilva (ArcelorMittal) is the number one producer of CO2 in Italy
I believe that even in China the government doesn't come to guarantee this. A new law is written to give immunity to those who will manage ILVA. The only hope is that the European Commission will refer this Government to the Court of Justice of the European Union.
